Network Solutions is one of the big names in web services and tools, and offers everything from domain names to search engine optimization and website design.  However, they also provide a number of web hosting solutions, aimed at small businesses.  There is a lot here that you are likely to want from a hosting package, but Network Solutions is priced considerably above the competition.  So is it worth the cost?

Unlike many of the other big web hosts, Network Solutions places bandwidth and disc space limits on its starter shared hosting plans.  This is unlikely to be a problem, as the limits are set very high, but it does mean that the company will have  to work harder elsewhere to prove that it is good value for money.  When it comes to developing your website, Network Solutions provides a huge library of scripts, each of which can be installed with a simple click, and which will help you to transform your website in any way you like.  As with most shared hosting accounts, Network Solutions offers a free domain name, and if you go with the top plan it will even throw in two extra free domains.  However, there are few extra features here to warrant the cost, particularly when it comes to business and marketing tools.  When you consider how much more expensive Network Solutions is than the competition, this feels like very poor value for money.

For customers wanting more performance from their hosting, Network Solutions offers two virtual private server packages, at either end of the spectrum in terms of specifications.  Again, the raw value-for-money is not very impressive, though the service offers high functionality and a reasonable set of features.  One thing that may put some people off Network Solutions' VPS hosting is the control panel.  Those who are used to working with the cPanel control panel may be disappointed, as Network Solutions employs Plesk for this task instead.  Plesk is an almost equally prestigious piece of software and offers top functionality, but cPanel has consistently proven a favorite and industry-leader.

Across all its services, Network Solutions offers some of the top performance and reliability in the industry.  It claims 99.9% uptime, which is slightly better than most web hosts, and will ensure your site does not unnecessarily suffer in the search rankings or lose business.  If things do go wrong, you need to know that you can rely on a sturdy support system, and Network Solutions performs reasonably in this area.  There is telephone and ticket support if you need direct contact, and an online area with FAQs and support forum.  The forum does not see much activity, unfortunately, so is unlikely to be of much use, but the knowledgebase is quite extensive.

Network Solutions is strong in many areas, but with nothing beyond what you would expect of a much cheaper host, the company will struggle to justify its high costs.  The great performance and impressive uptime are persuasive, but not enough to really justify Network Solutions as a sensible web hosting choice.
